Hello, my name is Michael. With our fiftieth wedding anniversary looming in the not-so-distant future, in the fall of 2014 Judy and I moved to New Mexico to be closer to our only child and his family.
Judy and I were born and raised in Ohio – the land of corn and soybeans and cows, pigs, and chickens. And fish fries, ice cream socials, and root beer stands. Just a few of the things we haven’t found in and around our new home – the land of enchantment. But what we have found, in and around our new home, are wonderful new friends, many new vistas to explore, and many new sights and tastes to experience.
I have always been a techie, nerdy guy who learned to build and fix stuff at a very early age. Over the years I went from carrying a toolbox, to training those who did, to managing those who trained those who did. The training that I have learned on the job has served me well, both on the job and at home. Over the years, we have tackled many a household project – from carpentry to plumbing to electrical.
I bought my first camera way back in the early seventies – even had my own darkroom for a while. And in the early eighties I bought my first computer – even built and repaired them for a number of years. I created this website for two reasons: as a techno geek, building websites stimulates my gray matter and this virtual bookcase provides an excellent place for storing and sharing photos, pros, and recipes with family and friends.
As for Albert, I think it’s neat that his name is Albert as Albert was the name of my best friend and classmate way back in the fifties. Then again maybe that is just the name that Albert chose knowing it would instantly make us best friends as well. I have always said that when it comes to people, I do not see color. That said, I must admit that it is hard to not notice Albert’s – though he wears it well.
There is not much I can say about Albert as he does not like to talk about his past all that much. While he was not a member of that particular voyage, he had friends who were lost during the fateful 1947 Roswell crash landing. I know that their deaths and the subsequent cover-up by our government traumatized him very deeply. We all have our demons, and I try my best to support him during his dark moments as he does me during mine.
He has been a wonderful addition to our family. He is so very smart – the stuff he knows makes Alexa and Siri seem like kindergartners. He has a wit that is out of this world – pun intended. And he is always quick to remind us to accept everyone just as they are. He is also a huge asset in the kitchen, especially when it comes to thawing and reheating foods as we do not have a microwave.
