World Famous Chili

Intro and Overview…

Much like Taco Skillet, our World-Famous Chili is pretty goof-proof. Just brown some ground beef, open a bunch of cans, and dump in a bunch of seasoning. Okay, slight oversimplification. I will admit, however, that I typically give the recipe a passing glance, and then use whatever I have on hand at the time.

C’mon, any Midwesterner, current or former, who has ever made a pot of chili will claim that theirs is the best. And let’s face it, if you have a green alien as a kitchen assistant, you gotta claim that your chili recipe is World Famous, or maybe, Out-of-This-World Famous.

In case you are wondering if you can leave out the Hatch Green Chiles, ask yourself one question. Do you want World-Famous Chili or Just-Okay Chili? And yes, it has to be Hatch Green Chiles – preferably Flame Roasted Hatch Green Chile Salsa from The Bossy Gourmet. (And no, I do not receive a commission from Bossy – she’s just got good stuff.)

Stuff You Need…

  • 4 lbs Ground Beef, 80% – 85% lean
  • 2 Med White Onions, diced
  • 4 Cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 Cans Red Kidney Beans, not drained
  • 1 Can Great Northern Beans, drained
  • 2 Cans Cruched Tomatos, not drained
  • Tomato Juice, as needed
  • 1 tspn dried oregano
  • 1 tspn ground cumin
  • 1 tspn chili powder
  • 1 tspn kosher salt
  • 1 tspn black pepper

And Then…

Brown ground beef in large pot. Add diced onion and garlic and cook until tender. Drain any fat.

Add beans, tomatos, and spices.

Simmer over medium heat for thirty minutes or more. Season to taste. Add tomato juice as needed.
